To better study the spirit of the " Two Sessions", clarify the focus of the base's research work this year, and serve the major national needs and regional economic and social development, on the morning of March 10, Professor Yang Canming, Director of the Academic Innovation and Intelligence Base, IIDPF, led all faculty members to study the 2021 Government Work Report. Professor Lu Yuanping, Executive Vice Director of the Base, hosted the study.
Based on this year's government work report, Professor Yang Canming gave an analysis on issues related to relative poverty and income distribution. Professor Yang believes that the task of poverty eradication in China has been completed and the absolute poverty problem has been effectively solved, but the problem of relative poverty still exists. Present and future base research in relative poverty and income distribution should focus on three areas: the first is to examine how to prevent absolute poverty from rebounding; secondly, to examine how to tackle relative poverty; the third is to study how to apply China's solutions and experience to promote the settlement of world poverty, reflecting the responsibility and commitment of a major country. In terms of specific research, we need to focus continuously on income, wealth, and the various factors that influence the distribution of income and wealth, such as education, health, and the design of mobility systems. In terms of research methods, attention should be paid to the close integration with science and technology, the scientific and technological revolution. New technologies such as big data, blockchain and artificial intelligence not only facilitate research, but also respond to the requirements for the construction of new humanities and social sciences. Research should also focus on related issues, such as the relationship between demographics and income distribution.
Finally, Professor Yang expressed his confidence and expectations for the development of the Base. He suggested that the organisation of the base should be planned in a solid way, one step at a time, building its own brand and forming its own style and characteristics. Professor Yang stressed that the base staff should constantly broaden horizons, insist on using interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge to research income distribution issues, to serve the overall economic and social development of China.
