(Correspondent: Wen Ting, Wang Dongxin, Cheng Mingmei) At 3:00 p.m. on October 19, on the occasion of our university's 70th anniversary, the School of Finance and Taxation held a demonstration meeting on the development of the financial discipline in the conference room on the fifth floor of the Zhongyuan building, to further promote the Double First-Class construction of the university and the school. Guests invited to attend the meeting included Professor Wu Junpei of Wuhan University, Professor Yang Canming, President of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Professor Guo Qingwang of Renmin University of China, Professor Yin Heng of Renmin University of China, Professor Fan Ziying of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Professor Gong Qiang, President of Wenlan School of Business of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Professor Zhang Kezhong, Dean of the School of Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Secretary Zhou Wei of the Party Committee of the School, Vice President Professor Xue Gang, Deputy Secretary Xiong Sihong of the Party Committee of the School, and core teachers of the school. The meeting was presided over by Secretary Zhou Wei of the School of Finance and Taxation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Zhang Kezhong of the School of Finance and Taxation gave a thematic report on the school's strategic development plan. Dean Zhang analyzed the opportunities and challenges faced by the School of Finance and Taxation on the future path to strive for first-class from five aspects: strategic overview, external environment, benchmarking analysis, strategic planning and implementation guarantee. Dean Zhang pointed out that to build a first-class finance and taxation school, the institution had to seek characteristics in diversified competition, integrate resources and highlight characteristic disciplines to demonstrate the school's competitiveness. The structure of teachers should be continuously optimized, and the quality of talent training be improved, to form a dynamic balance mechanism between internal and external. For the specific development requirements of the School of Finance and Taxation, Dean Zhang also put forward the Six Major Projects for the implementation of the development strategy: the education quality improvement project, the high-end teacher recruiting project, the academic research promoting project, the local and international integration project, the school brand culture project, and the project of efficiency improvement on administrative service. Dean Zhang believed that only through first-class services, gathering first-class scholars, doing first-class academic work and cultivating first-class talents, could the school become a palace to contribute new knowledge of finance and taxation and a cradle to cultivate elites in the industry.
Professor Wu Junpei of Wuhan University offered corresponding opinions and suggestions on Dean Zhang's strategic plan for the development of the School of Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. Professor Wu proposed four suggestions on the construction of first-class disciplines. First, strengthen cooperation and exchanges between fraternal colleges and universities to form a driving force for the development of internal and external cooperation. Second, through fine management, continuously cultivate high-quality scientific research teachers and form a good atmosphere for academic discussions among teachers. Third, given the importance of curriculum construction and teaching discussions, the assessment of teaching objectives should be strengthened. Fourth, improve the level of administrative services so that teachers could have more time to devote to scientific research. Professor Wu believed that only through the connection of various links could the school achieve the maximum of overall effectiveness and make contributions to the development and growth of the School of Finance and Taxation.
Professor Yin Heng of Renmin University of China expressed his views on Dean Zhang's speech from the perspective of researchers in fraternal colleges. He pointed out that strategic determination should be formed from two aspects: localization and internationalization, and basic research and think tank research. In terms of localization and internationalization, guide the teaching of financial discipline following international standards, strengthen the construction of local discipline, combine localization with internationalization, and stimulate late-mover advantage. Besides, basic research and think tank research, as two important projects of scientific research work, must be given priority. Rigorous scientific research results could only be obtained by long-term follow-up research. Professor Yin believed that if we continue to promote strategic focus and do not waver, results could be achieved.
Professor Fan Ziying of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics put forward relevant views on the problems in the current discipline construction. He held that the current shortage of compound talents and teachers in China had become the key barrier hindering the construction of first-class disciplines. To solve this problem, the treatment of scientific research teachers must be improved, and the enthusiasm for scientific research should be motivated. At the same time, the school should strengthen exchanges and cooperation among colleges and universities, speed up the construction of think tanks and scientific research teams in colleges and universities, train compound talents, instruct the local teacher resources to develop in the direction of internationalization, and lead the overall teacher resources to promote from inside to outside.
Professor Gong Qiang, Dean of Wenlan School of Business, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, pointed out that under the current national conditions, the importance of finance needed to be further paid attention to. To promote the first-class construction of fiscal discipline, the school should strengthen academic exchanges among scholars and promote scientific research innovation. Meanwhile, it was also necessary to establish a performance evaluation mechanism, continuously improve the income of teachers, bring senior teachers' advantage into full play, stimulate the enthusiasm of young teachers in scientific research, and enhance the vitality of scientific research, to form a good academic research atmosphere.
Professor Guo Qingwang of Renmin University of China also gave a speech on Dean Zhang's report. Professor Guo first affirmed that Zhongnan University of Economics and Law had the advantages of "good foundation, good culture, and good atmosphere," and had sufficient confidence in the first-class construction of finance discipline. He pointed out that at present, China was facing a dilemma of heavy competition pressure in scientific research. It was necessary to position disciplines according to their characteristics and practical needs and to select high-quality talents according to their discipline development and future prediction. Professor Guo proposed to adhere to the development concept of "teacher-oriented and student-centered", carry out scientific research team construction around teachers, and promote the development of discipline construction. Professor Guo stated that to improve scientific research innovation, the school must strengthen the incentive mechanism and form a good atmosphere to encourage scientific research innovation. At the same time, it was necessary to introduce outstanding overseas scientific research talents and promote exchanges and cooperation between local and overseas scientific research scholars.
At the end of the meeting, Dean Zhang hired all professors and scholars to serve as members of the Strategic Development Committee of the School of Finance and Taxation of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law for a period of four years and issued honorary certificates to all professors.
Dean Zhang pointed out that although colleges and universities had different cultivation methods of finance majors, everyone was full of enthusiasm for the construction of finance discipline, and confidence in the future development of the discipline. The atmosphere of the venue was warm. The meeting had a clear theme, rich content, lively form, in-depth discussion and exciting views. Professors gathered strength and reached consensus in the discipline construction, and effectively promoted the construction of finance discipline of the school.
