The Governance of Intellectual Property in Digital Cyberspace
Human society has been protecting the use of intellectual property for centuries, since the patent system began in Venice in 1474. However, with the flourishing of the digital economy, human production has expanded from the physical space to the digital cyberspace. In digital cyberspace, information spreads quickly and innovations are easily copied; product marketing is not limited by physical space and IP infringement can cause significant damage in a short period of time; infringement is highly concealed and infringers can easily hide and remove evidence. The traditional IP system that successfully inspired the great innovations of the industrial revolution is no longer able to meet all the demands for the protection of innovation in the digital economy. In order to solve the difficult problem of IP governance in the digital cyberspace, it is necessary to build a three-in-one IP governance system in the digital cyberspace with government governance system, market governance system and social governance system. The effectiveness of governance needs to be achieved by three means: technology empowerment, institutional innovation and pluralistic governance. In this talk, Professor Huang Can from the Institute of Intellectual Property Management, School of Management, Zhejiang University, will bring his thoughts on the governance of IPR in digital cyberspace to the audience.
