Report topic: How Can Localized Assessments Activate Healthcare Data in a Big Picture: Research of Motor Impairment in Children in China
Abstract: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), also known as dyspraxia, is a neuropsychological disorder that occurs in 5-6% of children and usually continues into adulthood. As a common condition in childhood impacting everyday motor performance, CD can negatively affect children's daily life, increase difficulties in attention, reading and writing, social interaction, and affect children's self-esteem and motivational development. In the talk, Vivienne will introduce the concepts of standardised psychological assessment in children, the importance to develop a localised standard in assessing child disabilities, and how her team developed the local diagnosis standards of DC in China. She will also talk about her recent work in developing and using a large populational dataset to investigate the risk factors of DCD.
Presenter: Dr Vivienne Du
Associate Professor at Nottingham Trent University. Child psychologist and member of the International DCD Association. Her main areas of research are child health and childhood disorders, particularly Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), including the diagnosis and assessment of children with the condition and exploring the influence of genetic and non-genetic factors on their movement disorders. At this stage she leads cutting-edge and innovative projects in the field worth a total of over £1.4 million.
