Abstract:
The public's sensitivity to environmental issues will trigger the "Vote with Feet". Taking the release of the documentary “Under the Dome” as an exogenous shock, difference-in-difference (DID) estimates show that for every 10% increase in total attention to documentary, the total value of land transactions decreased by 0.08%, and the number of land transactions decreased by 0.03%. The above results are further demonstrated through instrumental variable (IV) estimation. Further analysis also finds that the local willing of house purchasing and the entry of new business were important channel. A series of robustness checks support our basic results. The research provides strong evidence for the theoretical model of "voting with feet".
