Topic: Is there a Paradox in Private Enterprises' Contribution to Common Prosperity? An Empirical Study Based on the Third Distribution Perspective
As there are a large number of private enterprises in China, how to cultivate private enterprises to properly fulfill their social responsibilities and activate more private enterprises' social power is of great significance to the realization of common prosperity. From the perspective of the third distribution, this paper systematically compares the effects and tendency differences of the third distribution behaviour in the process of private enterprises' fulfillment of social responsibility to promote common prosperity from the perspective of the third distribution, base-stem multi-equation systematic seemingly uncorrelated regression, and verifies the existence of the paradox of fulfilling responsibility. A synthetic double difference method is then used to measure the effect of charitable giving on corporate reputation and to explore the reasons for the paradox. The study found that private enterprises' fulfillment of social responsibility can contribute more effectively to the common prosperity through primary and redistributive behaviour, but private enterprises are more willing to participate in the third distribution, such as charitable donations, which is a paradox. Further analysis suggests that the reason for this phenomenon is that charitable giving helps private enterprises to receive more positive media coverage and enhance their reputation. The conclusions of this article reveal potential problems for private enterprises in fulfilling their responsibilities and highlight the important role of primary distribution and redistribution, providing a favourable reference for the construction of a better practice of common prosperity.
