IIDPF Research Project Submission Announcement
The Institute of Income Distribution and Public Finance (IIDPF) of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), established November of 2010, is a research institution jointly established by the Institute of Social Sciences and the School of Public Finance and Taxation of ZUEL. Professor Yang Canming, President of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and a renowned Chinese financial scientist, is the Dean of the Institute. In December 2019, the "Innovation Base of Income Distribution and Public Finance", based on IIDPF, was approved as a national research platform in the field of applied economics in the University.
IIDPF has a highly educated, broad-minded and active interdisciplinary international research team, and is actively involved in a number of international scientific collaborations. We have attracted leading academics from prestigious universities such as Oxford University, Cornell University and the University of Nottingham.
Since its establishment, IIDPF has published many high-quality research results in Chinese authoritative journals, i.e. Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal and Management World, and more than 50 papers in international journals such as Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, China Economic Review, Journal of Futures Market, Journal of Happiness Studies and Social Indicators Research.
IIDPF investigates in depth the following five areas: national governance and public finance systems; fiscal policy and income distribution; field experiments and fiscal policy evaluation; income and wealth inequality; and poverty research. Following the decision of the IIDPF Academic Committee and the Working Group, we are pleased to announce that we are now open to the academic community to submit applications for the following topics.
The projects to be submitted need to be guided by the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implementing The Construction of Philosophy and Social Science with Chinese Characteristics and Discourse System Innovation. The proposed research should place equal emphasis on basic and applied research, develop the research characteristics of IIDPF. The research requires a starting point of narrowing the gap between the income and wealth of Chinese residents and solving the real problem of income inequality, with fiscal policy as the main grip, and accelerating the construction of China's public finance system. Together, it will serve the overall situation of the work of the Party and the state and the prosperous development of public finance.
The IIDPF Project Submission Guideline (The Guideline) has formulated a number of important topics in the discipline of income distribution and public finance, where applicants may choose to submit their applications, taking into account their academic expertise and research base.
To apply for IIDPF projects, it is important to reflect the distinctive characteristics of the socialist new era, to be problem-oriented and innovative, and strive to produce research results that reflect high standards. For basic research, it should closely follow the frontiers and dynamics of academic development and discipline construction, and strengthen the innovation of discipline system, academic system and discourse system, to be original, pioneering and of high academic intellectual value. For applied research, it should be based on the development needs of the CPC and the state, focusing on major theoretical and practical issues of a global, strategic and forward-looking nature in economic and social development, and striving to be realistic, relevant and of strong reference value for decision-making.
The project applicant (chair) must have the following: Ability to conduct and organise independent research and to undertake substantive research work; Eligible PhD students (post-docs) may apply through their supervisors' consent. Due to funding constraints, only faculty members, post-docs and PhD students from ZUEL are invited in application.
The entries listed in the Guide are scoping entries. The entries only define the scope and direction of the research, applicants are able to design their own specific topics accordingly. The title should be formulated scientifically, rigorously, concisely and standardized. The applicants may choose different research perspectives, methods and emphases within the selected scoping entries. Applications without a clear research target or problem will not be accepted or developed.
IIDPF projects are peer-reviewed by experts. Two rounds of online closed assessment, preliminary and final, will be conducted by experts within ZUEL in Project Selection.
Project chairs are expected to abide by the relevant commitments and fulfil their agreed obligations during the execution of the project and complete the research tasks on time and with high quality. Final outputs should be in the form of a research report and a published journal article or academic monograph. An approved Application Form is considered a binding text of the funding contract. The results of the IIDPF project must be published with a prominent reference to the "Innovation Base for Income Distribution and Public Finance (B20084)".
Project funding type:
Key projects: 100,000 RMB per grant, 5 grant quotas.
General projects: 60,000 RMB per grant, grants 10 grant quotas.
Postdoctoral and PhD student projects: RMB 30,000 per grant, 15 grant quotas.
Conditions for Completion:
Key projects: one paper of category B or above, or one academic monograph. The duration of the project is normally two years.
Key projects: one paper of category B- or above, or one academic monograph. The duration of the project is normally one year.
Postdoctoral and PhD student projects: one paper of category C or above. The duration of the project is normally one year.

For printed material submission, please send it to Room 129, Wenqin Building, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Sun Chen (027-88385549). Post-doctoral students / current PhD students should attach a letter of consent from their supervisors. The deadline for project submissions is 20 September 2020.
